HS 140: Introduction to Health Professions Fall 2020 Interview with a Health Care Professional

The purpose of this assignment is to learn about the roles and responsibilities of a health profession that is of interest to you. Interview a professional in that discipline to learn about their major duties, work settings, educational requirements, and employment opportunities.
Guidelines for the Interview
1. Prepare a list of questions that you will use during your interview.
2. Seek out a professional and arrange an interview. Plan to spend 30-60 minutes with the person. Convenient times for the professional may be early in the day (7:00 – 8:30 AM), lunch time, or at the end of the work day (3:30 – 5:00).
3. You may NOT interview anyone on the faculty of the University of Hartford.
4. When setting up your interview, ask where you should park. On the day of the interview, be sure to give yourself extra time to ensure your prompt arrival. It can take quite a while to park on the top level of a parking garage.
5. Dress professionally for your interview. No jeans, hats, t- shirts or flip-flops.
6. At the conclusion of the interview, obtain a signed statement from the professional that verifies that the interview took place. Include the date and time of the interview. It must be on letterhead from the facility and must be signed bv the person you interviewed.
7. Send a thank you note within two days of the interview.
Guidelines for the Paper
Write a summary of the interview in a narrative format. Do NOT simply list your questions and their responses. Feel free to add information that the person shared that was not included in your interview questions. Include a paragraph about your impressions of the experience. Was it what you expected? What was the most surprising thing you learned? Did the interview affect your decision to pursue the profession? Did the person say anything that left a lasting impression on you?
Your paper should be between 2-4 pages long. Please double space the paper. Attach the necessary documentation.
