These platforms allow people, institutions and businesses to interact and share ideas. Social media has made a tremendous impact on people, businesses and even governments and this include enhancing interaction and sharing of information.<\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Global Usage<\/p>\n<p>Social media is used globally. According to this data, out of the 7 billion in the world, about 3 billion are active users of the internet. Out of the 3 billion, 2 billion are active users of social media. This makes is a suitable platforms for businesses to exploit given the high number of users. The growth in the number of social media users are expected to rise in the future.<\/p>\n<p>4<\/p>\n<p>Uses of Social Media by Companies<\/p>\n<p>Marketing<\/p>\n<p>Recruitment<\/p>\n<p>Brand development<\/p>\n<p>Communication<\/p>\n<p>Research<\/p>\n<p>Companies use social media for:<\/p>\n<p>Marketing their products<\/p>\n<p>Recruitment of employees<\/p>\n<p>Brand development<\/p>\n<p>Communication<\/p>\n<p>Research<\/p>\n<p>5<\/p>\n<p>Marketing<\/p>\n<p>Companies can use social media to promote their products by:<\/p>\n<p>Using influencers<\/p>\n<p>Using company social media pages to promote products (Shen, 2013).<\/p>\n<p>Using sponsored advertisements, for example, Instagram sponsored ads.<\/p>\n<p>Companies use social media for marketing their products. The high number of social media users allow companies to have a wide reach to their customers and potential customers. They use influencers to gain traffic and increase sales for their products. Social media platforms such as Instagram provide sponsored ads that companies use to promote their brands. Companies also use their social media pages to promote their porducts.<\/p>\n<p>6<\/p>\n<p>Recruitment<\/p>\n<p>Companies can use social media to recruit employees since it:<\/p>\n<p>Provides a wide pool of potential employees<\/p>\n<p>Allows companies to interact with their prospective employees.<\/p>\n<p>Since social media has a large number of users, companies are able to source employees via their social media platforms. They use their pages to advertise jobs, assess potential employees and interact with them to determine their suitability for the job. Similarly, it provides a platform from where companies can identify talent and recruit suitable employees.<\/p>\n<p>7<\/p>\n<p>Brand Development<\/p>\n<p>Companies can exploit to develop their brands. This can be done through:<\/p>\n<p>Telling compelling stories (Culnan, 2010)<\/p>\n<p>Selling brand philosophy through pictures.<\/p>\n<p>Engaging in conversations with other users.<\/p>\n<p>Companies can exploit to develop their brands. This can be done through<\/p>\n<p>:<\/p>\n<p>Telling compelling stories associated with their products.<\/p>\n<p>Selling brand philosophy through pictures. Companies post pictures that promote their products.<\/p>\n<p>Engaging in conversations with other users. Social medial provides engagement platforms from where companies can converse with other social media users; an opportunity that allows them to sell their brands.<\/p>\n<p>Communication<\/p>\n<p>Communication via social media can happen between;<\/p>\n<p>The company and employees<\/p>\n<p>The company and customers (Bhanot, 2010)<\/p>\n<p>The company and regulatory authorities<\/p>\n<p>Companies can use social media to communicate to their employees, customers, potential customers and regulatory authorities. Twitter for example has been used for communication. It allows firms to get verified Research<\/p>\n<p>Companies can carry out research on social media to determine:<\/p>\n<p>Consumer needs<\/p>\n<p>Brand perception (Sajid, 2018)<\/p>\n<p>Companies rely on research to enhance and improve on their services and products. The high number of social media users allow companies to interact with its customers to gather concerns regarding their products and services. Collection of such information has been made easy by social media platforms, for example; the poll feature allows companies to determine consumer perception through voting. Consumers are also able to present their needs to companies.<\/p>\n<p>Conclusion<\/p>\n<p>Other than marketing, companies can use social media for:<\/p>\n<p>Communication with customers, employees and regulatory authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Research to determine brand perception and consumer needs<\/p>\n<p>Recruitment of employees and brand development<\/p>\n<p>While marketing has been one of the most talked about use of social media by companies and business, other benefits are equally significant to the performance and operations of firms.
