Introduction<\/p>\n<p>? The introduction is designed to give insights into the topic of the research. Here<\/p>\n<p>we introduce the themes in the novel and some of the key characters who<\/p>\n<p>contribute to the overall plot of the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>? Struggle between change and tradition<\/p>\n<p>o This is one of themes common throughout the novel. The research<\/p>\n<p>paper shall look into how the community in Nigeria strived to retain its<\/p>\n<p>culture with the influence of the missionary and the introduction of the<\/p>\n<p>foreign form of governance.<\/p>\n<p>? Different Interpretation of masculinity<\/p>\n<p>o Okonkwo appears to be the strongest man in the land due to his strong<\/p>\n<p>body as compared to many of the strongmen in the community. Also, his<\/p>\n<p>fighting browses have earned him respect and fear and he called upon<\/p>\n<p>whenever any fighting challenge occurs.<\/p>\n<p>? Language: the sign of cultural differences<\/p>\n<p>o Chinua Achebe has tried in the book to demonstrate the strength of the<\/p>\n<p>African language which was overlooked by other English writers. He has<\/p>\n<p>also portrayed how the African language such the Igbo is hard to translate<\/p>\n<p>to English because it might lead to the change of the meaning that was<\/p>\n<p>2<\/p>\n<p>RUNNING HEAD: PORTFOLIO PROJECT OUTLINE AND SPECIFIED CULTURAL ANALYSIS<\/p>\n<p>intended. IN some instances, Achebe introduces the fact there are several<\/p>\n<p>African languages used by different and he makes fun of it.<\/p>\n<p>? Divide among different generations.<\/p>\n<p>o The Okonkwo come in through different generation. The<\/p>\n<p>first-generation divides Okonkwo from his father, Unoka. Unoka was not<\/p>\n<p>a worrier like his father, who was known to be a terrible conman who<\/p>\n<p>owed everybody in the community.<\/p>\n<p>o Another generation division is seen between Okonkwo and his son<\/p>\n<p>Nwoye which share some common features as his grandfather, but<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo thinks that he is like his mother. Nwoye is not interested in the<\/p>\n<p>warlike his father and also, his lack the love arts.<\/p>\n<p>? Pride<\/p>\n<p>o pride is another theme common through the novel which is seen in<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo who takes as the most fearless man in the community. He takes<\/p>\n<p>pride in his achievement as a worrier, which has made him accomplish a<\/p>\n<p>lot. The pride also has become the reason for his looking down upon other<\/p>\n<p>people.We have come a long way from our first readings and discussions of literature and of our common novel, Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe.<br \/>\nWe have covered a lot of ground about the elements of short fiction, poetry, and the novel.<br \/>\nWe have also examined the literary criticism about our novel, and you have compiled an annotated bibliography about key elements of that literary criticism on your chosen theme or topic.<br \/>\nThis week, you combine all of our elements and craft a completed rough draft of what will become your final Portfolio.<br \/>\nAs this is your first attempt at completing a full draft of your semester-long examination of the novel, we will view this draft as a separate assignment. For the Portfolio Project, you will write a research paper about Chinua Achebes\u00a0Things Fall Apart, supplementing your own interpretation with information from three to five other sources. Your interpretation of this novel should reflect an international perspective.\u00a0Information about planning your research paper and conducting your research can be found in the lecture material for Module 5. The Portfolio Project is due in Week 8.<br \/>\nEssay Formatting Requirements:<\/p>\n<p>5-7 pages.<br \/>\nMinimum of three sources (excluding the novel)\u0094must be credible, authored sources; anonymous websites or sites like Wikipedia are not acceptable as one of your three main sources.<br \/>\nDouble-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-pt font.<br \/>\nTitle Page: for an explanation of how to formulate a title page in APA, see\u00a0The Purdue OWL\u00a0(Links to an external site.) Please be sure to pay special attention to the quality of your written work. It is highly recommended that you closely proofread your assignment prior to submission. In addition, you are again expected to provide support for your arguments based upon both the required and recommended readings for the course, your research, and any relevant points culled from the discussion boards. Review the Portfolio Project Rubric, located in the Module 8 folder.<br \/>\nFinally, you will take the particular research question that you are developing as the thesis of your Portfolio Project and contextualize it in such a way as to convey an international or multicultural understanding of the novel. For example, if you are developing a\u00a0cultural analysis\u00a0of the novel, you will need to answer, as a part of your research thesis, how one culture develops in direct competition against the emergence of another foreign culture. Or, if you are developing a feminist analysis, you will need to answer, as a part of your research question, how one cultures treatment of women changes when confronted by another cultures differing attitude toward women.
