The total number of required credits to complete the PSY 101 research requirement is 4 credits. Therefore, students will need to complete either two article summaries (2 credits each), or one article summary (2 credits) and 2 additional credits of research participation (via SONA), in order to complete the research requirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 To get extra credit in the class, at least half the research credits (2 credits) or 1 article summary must be submitted by the extra credit deadline with no unexcused absences (see deadline dates on main page).<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Completion of 4 research credits is due by final deadline at 5:00pm on December 11th, 2019 (see deadline dates on main page) in order to complete the research requirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Late papers WILL NOT be accepted \u2014 no exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Reports must review one scholarly research article published in any of the following four journals:<\/p>\n<p>1. Psychological Science in the Public Interest: http:\/\/psi.sagepub.com\/content\/by\/year<\/p>\n<p>1. American Psychologist: http:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/journals\/amp\/<\/p>\n<p>1. Psychological Science: http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/home\/pss<\/p>\n<p>1. Current Directions in Psychological Science: http:\/\/cdp.sagepub.com\/content\/by\/year<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 In order to access certain journal websites make sure that the cookies function on your computer is set to \u0093always allow.\u0094 Also, you may have to use a campus computer in order to download articles from these journals. You can also access them from home if you have an SDSU library account by visiting https:\/\/library.sdsu.edu\/.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Each research report will include a summary of the research and a separate section about student insights and thoughts about the research that was presented. (Template below.)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 NOTE: These are individual assignments and are not to be done in pairs or groups of students. The same articles reported by different students will be carefully scrutinized for evidence of individual work using SafeAssign (TM) software. Plagiarized submissions will not be granted credit.<\/p>\n<p>Paper Requirements<\/p>\n<p>A written review and critique of the research article to include (template below):<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 A summary (500-650 words) of the research in which you briefly describe the hypotheses, methodology, and basic findings.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 A critique and discussion (250-350 words) of the significance of the research findings. This is a chance for you to \u0093show off\u0094 your psychology skills by adding personal insight and thoughts about the research that was presented. For instance, one might discuss how the research might apply in another situation or context, discuss how the research helped them understand an event that happened in their own lives, or critique the study and its conclusions by providing arguments in support or against the research.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Your paper MUST be a total of at least 750 words total (not including the header and citations). If your paper is less than this 750 words, you will NOT receive credit.
