We often get questions from our clinical practice \u2013 we think \u201cI wonder why we do it this way?\u201d or \u201cwould it be better if we did \u2018x\u2019 instead of \u2018x\u2019?\u201d. This is how we answer these types of questions! The format for identifying and defining an evidence-based practice (EBP) question is the PICO format. P stands for patient population or patient condition of interest. You should be fairly specific in identifying this population \u2013 for example, you might look at \u201cchildren under the age of 10 with type I diabetes\u201d or \u201cmales older than the age of 65 with diabetes\u201d. I stands for intervention of interest. Again, you want to be specific in what intervention you are interested in \u2013 you might look at \u201cweekly parental education, training, and support sessions\u201d or \u201cselfmonitoring of blood glucose 3 times daily\u201d. C stands for comparison. This is typically the current standard of care or the main alternative to the proposed intervention. It might be \u201ceducation every 6 months at with the endocrinologist\u201d or \u201cHemoglobin A1C every 3 months with primary care provider\u201d. O stands for outcome. This is what you hope to accomplish, improve, or measure. It might be \u201cdecrease in number of hospitalizations for diabetic ketoacidosis\u201d or \u201cincrease in percentage of patients with a hemoglobin A1C under 7\u201d. These are just examples, of course. Select a problem that is of interest to you, since you will be living and breathing this topic for the next 3 months! The intent of this project is to gain information and insight that will be of use to you in your clinical practice. Also in this part of the project, you will start being introduced to APA format. APA format is required in later portions of the project \u2013 so this is your chance to become familiar with it and get feedback on formatting issues before it is actually included as part of the grade. For this part of the project, you just need to insert a properly formatted title page.
