Men\u2019s identities have been tied to work and employment, and a<br \/>\nman\u2019s perceived worth is often directly linked to his job and employment.<br \/>\nAlthough physical strength used to be related to work, few men now have<br \/>\nphysically-demanding jobs. As technological and organizational changes occur, a<br \/>\ncultural shift has impacted the definition of masculinity. Males and females<br \/>\nhave come to share similar labor force participation, and the gendering of work<br \/>\nhas affected the definitions of femininity and masculinity.<br \/>\nThe probabilities or odds of<br \/>\neconomic achievement are affected by gender. As an economy changes, the odds<br \/>\nchange and also impact gender norms and expectations. With cultural values that<br \/>\nemphasize independence, the U.S. places expectations for economic success on<br \/>\nindividuals. If a person is not fully employed, the individual will be held<br \/>\naccountable for unemployment. Economic shifts and gendered discrimination are<br \/>\nrarely considered significant factors in employment and work. However, economic<br \/>\nposition is much more complex than individual responsibility.
