For these Symposium discussions, your instructor \u00a0will choose a topic of current ethical interest and a resource \u00a0associated with it for you to read or watch. Your task is to consider \u00a0how the ethical theory of the week might be used to examine, understand \u00a0or evaluate the issue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 24px; color: #001847; font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;\">This week, you will consider how deontology applies to a controversy, \u00a0dilemma, event, or scenario selected by your instructor. It is a chance \u00a0for you to discuss together the ethical issues and questions that it \u00a0raises, your own response to those, and whether that aligns with or does \u00a0not align with a deontological approach. The aim is not to simply \u00a0assert your own view or to denigrate other views, but to identify, \u00a0evaluate, and discuss the moral reasoning involved in addressing the \u00a0chosen issue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 24px; color: #001847; font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;\">Your posts should remain focused on the ethical considerations, and \u00a0at some point in your contribution you must specifically address the way \u00a0someone with a deontological view would approach this issue by \u00a0explaining and evaluating that approach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 24px; color: #001847; font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;\">If you have a position, you should strive to provide reasons in defense of that position.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 10px; font-size: 24px; color: #001847; font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;\">When responding to peers, you should strive to first understand the \u00a0reasons they are offering before challenging or critiquing those \u00a0reasons.
