You have been working with the \u00a0community for a few months and your supervisor is very happy with your \u00a0efforts so far.<br \/>\nYou have made some progress gaining access to \u00a0and the trust of the community, but some people in the community are \u00a0still wary of the health department\u2019s involvement. In the past, the \u00a0health department has come into the community and implemented health \u00a0promotion programs without taking the community\u2019s needs or wants into \u00a0account. Many of the programs were perceived of by the community as \u00a0being offensive and hurtful. For example, many older members of the \u00a0community remember programs run by the health department that coerced \u00a0low-income women of color to be sterilized as a way to decrease \u00a0unplanned pregnancy. (See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourbodiesourselves.org\/health-info\/forced-sterilization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Krase, 2014\u00a0(Links to an external site.)<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0for a review of some of these programs.) Thus, they remain suspicious \u00a0about why you and the health department want to work with them.<br \/>\nUnaware of some of the complexities of the health department and \u00a0community\u2019s relationship, your supervisor has decided to reward your \u00a0work by granting the community program $5,000. However, the money comes \u00a0with a stipulation that you may not use it to pay people (i.e. for \u00a0salaries; you are the staff person who will need to implement the chosen \u00a0intervention, and your salary is already budgeted) and it must be used \u00a0to address alcohol and drug abuse, which your supervisor perceives to be \u00a0an issue in the community with which you are working. In addition, the \u00a0money must be used within the next two months, prior to the end of the \u00a0fiscal year. The money is \u201cuse it or lose it\u201d. If not used within the \u00a0next two months, the money will be gone and your supervisor may think \u00a0you and the community do not want or need funding to do your work.<br \/>\nYour supervisor has requested you submit by Thursday a one-page \u00a0overview of the intervention you plan to implement and an associated \u00a0budget that lays out how you will spend the money. This leaves you no \u00a0time to talk with community leaders about what they think about the \u00a0offer for program funding or what should be done with the money. You \u00a0have a meeting with community leaders scheduled for Thursday night and \u00a0will need to present them with the proposal you develop this week.<br \/>\nThe textbook outlines several intervention strategies, including health \u00a0communication, health education, health policy\/enforcement, and \u00a0environmental change. Based on the analysis you did of the community in \u00a0week four, choose one or more of these strategies that you think would \u00a0be most successful given the community\u2019s work to date. In your post:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outline the primary program components that you will spend the money on.<\/li>\n<li>Create a budget that explains how the funding will be used.<\/li>\n<li>Devise a strategy for how you will present the plan to the community.
