{"id":16829,"date":"2020-11-24T09:15:10","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlineclassesguru.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/research-paper-sports-law-2\/"},"modified":"2020-11-24T09:15:10","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:15:10","slug":"research-paper-sports-law-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onlineclassesguru.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/research-paper-sports-law-2\/","title":{"rendered":"research paper sports law"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"section the_content has_content\">\n<div class=\"section_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"the_content_wrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0 Your paper will be 10-15 full pages, including footnotes. \u00a0You must be clear and avoid the filler that is often contained in longer papers.\u00a0 What is filler?\u00a0 Filler is extra \u201cstuff\u201d that just fills pages but adds little or no value to your paper.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0 Introduction\u00a0(10%):\u00a0 Your introduction will not be longer than two pages.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 \u00a0Thesis Statement:\u00a0(10%):\u00a0 Immediately after your introduction, you must present a clear thesis statement.\u00a0 In simplistic terms, a thesis statement is the main point of your paper that tells the reader what you intend to argue later in your paper.\u00a0 Word your thesis statement, as follows:\u00a0 \u201cMy thesis statement is . . . .\u201d\u00a0 The thesis statement should not be longer than two sentences, and normally one is sufficient.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 \u00a0Road Map\u00a0(5%):\u00a0 Immediately after your thesis statement, you must provide a clear road map to let the reader know where you are going with your paper.\u00a0 Word your road map, as follows:\u00a0 \u201cMy paper will first briefly explore . . . , followed by . . . .\u00a0\u00a0 Finally I will defend my thesis by . . . .\u201c\u00a0 Your road map should be only a few sentences, but it must be clear.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0 Background\u00a0(10%):\u00a0 Next, provide a brief but clear background of your topic.\u00a0 This may only be one page or less.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0 Argument\/Defending Your Thesis\u00a0(50%):\u00a0 Now you are at the meat of the paper, defending your thesis statement.\u00a0 This must be at least five full pages, and you must use your research to defend your thesis.\u00a0 This is the hardest part of your paper, and this is where you need to focus your time and energy.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 This is where students fail in their Capstone theses (I don\u2019t mean literally fail, but they lose a lot of points).\u00a0 Students either present poor arguments or they present no arguments at all.\u00a0 You will present clear arguments, supported by your research, to defend your thesis.\u00a0 Last three points in this area \u2014 (1) Conclusory statements must be supported with your research; (2) Do not use provoking language which amounts to merely an opinion, such as:\u00a0 \u201cThose who support capital punishment are idiots.\u201d\u00a0 (This actually came from a student); and (3) You need to fill in glaring gaps.\u00a0 For example, one student\u2019s entire thesis argued that the separation of church and state clause in the Constitution was misinterpreted by the Supreme Court and that religion should be in schools, government, etc.\u00a0 The glaring gap was, given the student\u2019s arguments, what did the separation clause mean?\u00a0 This was not addressed.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Conclusion\u00a0(5%):\u00a0 Conclude your paper in one page or less.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a few other points:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 \u00a0Grade:\u00a0 The grading rubric for each section of your paper is highlighted above (in yellow).\u00a0 As you can see, 50% of your paper is the argument section, which is why I say it is your main focus.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 \u00a0References\/Proper Use of The Bluebook\u00a0(10%):\u00a0 You must use a minimum of 6 scholarly references that will be footnoted (per The Bluebook) on the page where you use the reference.\u00a0 You may use a reference more than once, but it still only counts as 1 of the 6.\u00a0 Scholarly references are not Wikipedia, blogs, or crazy websites.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0 Formatting:\u00a0 Double space your paper and use a 12 point, Times New Roman font, with 1\u2033 margins.\u00a0 No title page, no endnotes, and no bibliography\/reference page. You will be using Bluebook footnotes only.
