{"id":16285,"date":"2020-11-24T09:14:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlineclassesguru.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/models-of-abnormal-psychology\/"},"modified":"2020-11-24T09:14:00","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:14:00","slug":"models-of-abnormal-psychology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onlineclassesguru.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/models-of-abnormal-psychology\/","title":{"rendered":"Models Of Abnormal Psychology"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>3 FULL PARAGRAPHS ONLY!<\/p>\n<p>From the reading this week, we learned about the following \u00a0theoretical orientations that have emerged in psychology to address \u00a0issues of abnormality and mental suffering: the biological model, the \u00a0psychodynamic model, the behavioral model, the cognitive model, the \u00a0humanistic-existential model, and the sociocultural model.<\/p>\n<p>For the discussion board this week, respond to the following:<\/p>\n<p>Biological, behavioral, and psychodynamic models of abnormal \u00a0psychology all suggest that humans are affected by causes unique to \u00a0their lives that are beyond each of our abilities to be fully aware of. \u00a0For biological models, for instance, these would be our neurochemistry \u00a0and genetic makeup (i.e., we are the effects of our biology), for \u00a0behavioral models these would be the sum total of social conditioning \u00a0that has shaped our behaviors (i.e., we are the effects of our \u00a0conditioning), and for psychodynamic models these would be our \u00a0unconscious thoughts and desires determined by our early relationships \u00a0with caregivers (i.e., we are the effects of our unconscious).<\/p>\n<p>Paragraph 1) If you worked as a mental health professional, do you think \u00a0it\u00a0could be helpful for you to assume that the individuals you are \u00a0working with are suffering from causes that are ultimately beyond their \u00a0full awareness and control?\u00a0Why or why not?<\/p>\n<p>Paragraph 2-3) Explain how other theoretical models of abnormal psychology, aside \u00a0from the three named above, might challenge the assumption that \u00a0individual suffering is caused by factors that are completely beyond \u00a0each individual\u2019s control.
