Now it is your turn to share your voice on topics that matter to you. Now, you will write your own editorial that showcases a problem and offers a solution.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, you will write your editorial as an Argumentative Essay. Remember what you read in this module\u2019s introduction and this module\u2019s discussion activity. Your argument should be carefully constructed and supported with evidence.<\/p>\n<p>In this activity, you will construct an editorial in the form of an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/owl.excelsior.edu\/argument-and-critical-thinking\/organizing-your-argument\/organizing-your-argument-aristotelian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><u>Argumentative Essay\u00a0(Links to an external site.)<\/u><\/a>\u00a0about a topic in which you feel inspired to take a stance. Make an argument and prove your stance to your audience using evidence from\u00a0<em>The New York Times.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When preparing your topic, consider the following to derive inspiration and passion: What have you seen that has made you upset? Proud? Appreciative? Scared? What is your argument? How do you support it? How is it relevant to your life and the world?<\/p>\n<p>There are so many topics you can choose from! To brainstorm argumentative topics, consider<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/03\/01\/learning\/lesson-plans\/401-prompts-for-argumentative-writing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<u><em>The New York Times\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/u><u>list of argumentative writing topics.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Consider contemporary, on-going world issues that impact our every day lives. Make an argument about (take a stance on) one of these issues. Use evidence from\u00a0<em>The New York Times\u00a0<\/em><em><strong>database<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(not website) to support your argument and stance.<\/li>\n<li>In the previous\u00a0<a title=\"Discussion: Identifying an Article for Your Editorial\" href=\"https:\/\/online.valenciacollege.edu\/courses\/84961\/discussion_topics\/868518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><u>Discussion Activity<\/u><\/a>, you were asked to research a\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0article from the\u00a0<em><strong>Valencia Library Database Collection<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0that helps prove your stance. Use this article for your evidence. That should pretty much open the whole world to you, as\u00a0<em>The Times<\/em>\u00a0publishes hundreds of articles a week on topics like politics and pop culture, sports and science, food and fashion, travel and technology.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You have free access to\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>The Times\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><strong>through the Valencia Library Database Collection. You need to search through this database collection to avoid website fees.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Write an Argumentative Essay that takes a stance on your chosen topic. Support your argumentative thesis with evidence from your\u00a0<em>NYT<\/em>\u00a0article.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the guidelines below<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note: This essay will be read and peer reviewed by 2 classmates in the next learning module.
