Soon, Bernice shared that she feared \u00a0contamination. She was particularly upset by touching wood, mail, and \u00a0canned goods. She also disliked touching silver flecks. By silver \u00a0flecks, Bernice meant silver embossing on greeting cards, eyeglass \u00a0frames, shiny appliances, and silverware. She was unable to state why \u00a0these particular objects were special sources of possible \u00a0contamination.\u00a0 Bernice became more distressed during the session, and \u00a0she started sharing what made her come for counseling.\u00a0 Bernice shared \u00a0that disturbing images pop in her mind, and the images are mind\u2019s eye \u00a0pictures of her \u201cworst fear.\u201d The images are so disturbing to Bernice \u00a0that she showed marked distress when talking about them.\u00a0 She explained \u00a0that the images were in regards to her child, \u201cThe person I love most in \u00a0the world and would do anything to protect.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bernice \u00a0explained that she feels compelled to do specific behaviors to try to \u00a0reduce her distress. Bernice engages in a variety of rituals that, when \u00a0taken together, take up much of her day. In the morning, she spends \u00a0hours washing and rewashing. Between each bath she has to scrape away \u00a0the outer layer of her bar of soap so that it will be free of germs. \u00a0Bernice said that although the decontamination rituals are tiresome, the \u00a0rituals she does to protect her child from harm are so detailed that \u00a0Bernice has to repeat them several times to get them \u201cright.\u201d\u00a0 She said \u00a0that she feels a sense of urgency to do the rituals perfectly to protect \u00a0her child.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Based on the Bernice Case Study, identify the most relevant \u00a0psychological disorder associated with her symptoms and explain your \u00a0rationale.<\/p>\n<p>(Hint: Bernice does *not* have a specific phobia; she does not have \u201cfear of germs.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0In your own words, explain what you have learned from the assigned \u00a0readings about the psychological disorder you identified for the Bernice \u00a0Case Study.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>You \u00a0will need to select at least *one* academic journal article that \u00a0explains one treatment approach used for the psychological disorder you \u00a0identified for the Bernice Case Study.\u00a0 To conduct your research on the \u00a0treatment approach, please use one of the following methods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can search the following: \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/monitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><u>Monitor on Psychology<\/u><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(webpage, opens in a new tab).
