Since its publication, the recommendations in \u201cTo Err Is Human\u2019\u201d have guided significant changes in nursing practice in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In this Discussion, you will review these recommendations and consider the role of health information technology in helping address concerns presented in the report.<\/p>\n<p><b>To prepare:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the summary of \u201cTo Err Is Human\u201d presented in the Plawecki and Amrhein article found in this week\u2019s Learning Resources.<\/li>\n<li>Consider the following statement:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe most significant barrier to improving patient safety identified in \u201cTo Err Is Human\u201dis a \u201clack of awareness of the extent to which errors occur daily in all health care settings and organizations (Wakefield, 2008).\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review \u201cThe Quality Chasm Series: Implications for Nursing\u201d focusing on Table 3: \u201cSimple Rules for the 21st Century Health Care System.\u201d Consider your current organization or one with which you are familiar.
