In epidemiology, the patient is the community and \u00a0individuals are viewed collectively. If individuals are followed, it is termed a longitudinal \u00a0cohort study. If classes\u2014e.g., age classes\u2014are studied, it is a \u00a0longitudinal cross-sectional study.
