This research provides nurses with strategies to better \u00a0communicate with patients, as well as answers to questions such as the \u00a0following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the most effective pharmacological agents to treat hypertension in an elderly Latino patient?<\/li>\n<li>How do home visits benefit the family of a child with a severe chronic illness?<\/li>\n<li>Are there new pharmacological treatments for mental illness?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Health care is ever changing. Research helps nurses understand what \u00a0those changes are and build on their knowledge base as they continue to \u00a0provide quality care to their patients.<\/p>\n<p>In your professional nursing practice, you will likely encounter both \u00a0patients and coworkers whose personal or cultural views on pharmacology \u00a0may be quite different from your own. Understanding the most current \u00a0research on pharmacological topics will help you make informed choices.<\/p>\n<p>For this assessment, imagine your supervisor asks you to write an \u00a0article on a controversial topic for the organization\u2019s monthly \u00a0newsletter in which you review the most recent research on the topic. \u00a0She stresses you must present a balanced overview and equally address \u00a0the pros and cons of the topic.<\/p>\n<h4>Preparation<\/h4>\n<p>Complete the following as you prepare to write your article:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose a topic from the list below:\n<ul>\n<li>The use of medical marijuana.<\/li>\n<li>The use of complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) versus traditional Western medicine.<\/li>\n<li>Experimental drug programs and disease management.<\/li>\n<li>Mandated vaccinations for children and the implications for parental choice not to vaccinate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Search the Capella library and the Internet to locate \u00a0peer-reviewed research articles on your selected topic. The information \u00a0you use to support your work in this assessment must be as recent as \u00a0possible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Note<\/em>: These are very broad topics. Limit your work to the scope of your practice and be mindful of the page-length requirements.<\/p>\n<h4>Requirements<\/h4>\n<p>Once you have identified your topic, organize your article as you wish. Is access limited to specific groups or \u00a0populations? Who determines access? On what is it based? Does access \u00a0influence choice?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Follow APA guidelines to format this assessment.
