In doing so, students can develop strategies to improve anticipatory guidance and health education by using effective, non-biased, and non-judgmental communication.<\/p>\n<h3>Activity Learning Outcomes<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Synthesize information in which addresses child health promotion, \u00a0developmental surveillance, observation of parent-child interaction, \u00a0anticipatory guidance, social determinants of health, and\/or cultural competence.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>As you view the video, observe the parent-child and the parent-provider interactions. Pay particular attention to the parent\u2019s responses to the provider\u2019s questions making note of inappropriate and appropriate responses.<\/li>\n<li>Choose five (5) topics from the following categories to complete the assignment:\n<ul>\n<li>Cognitive Developmental Milestones<\/li>\n<li>Physical Developmental Milestones<\/li>\n<li>Social-Emotional Developmental Milestones<\/li>\n<li>Safety<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol\/Substance Use<\/li>\n<li>Environmental Health Risks<\/li>\n<li>Temper Tantrums and Discipline<\/li>\n<li>Sleep Routines<\/li>\n<li>Car Seat Safety<\/li>\n<li>Healthy Teeth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You will develop and complete a table for each one of the five (5) \u00a0categories using the example below as a guide. (Note: There are at least \u00a010 categories addressed in the video, you must choose five (5) and create a separate table for each one).<\/li>\n<li>For each of the tables, complete each section:\n<ol>\n<li>Issue: Category name<\/li>\n<li>Negative interaction\/behavior:\u00a0<em>What did you see or hear that was inappropriate?<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Positive interaction\/behavior:\u00a0<em>What did you see that was appropriate?<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Guidelines\/recommendation:\u00a0<em>What does the research recommend?<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Scholarly reference:\u00a0<em>Must be in APA format within the table.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Professional\/Ethical Communication:\u00a0<em>How will provide non-judgmental and non-bias education regarding the issue identified? Needs to be at least 3 sentences<\/em>. Helpful Hints: Acknowledge how they feel, state the facts, and provide education or re-frame the approach.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Scholarly references should be peer-reviewed, preferably a Clinical \u00a0Practice Guideline (CPG), intended for providers (MDs, NPs) and no more than 5 years old (unless it is a clinical practice guideline\u2019s most recent update).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Preparing the Paper<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The table provided below is an example only.
