{"id":11230,"date":"2020-11-24T09:01:38","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlineclassesguru.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/a-pathophysiology-study\/"},"modified":"2020-11-24T09:01:38","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:01:38","slug":"a-pathophysiology-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onlineclassesguru.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/a-pathophysiology-study\/","title":{"rendered":"A Pathophysiology Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"css-tib94n\">\n<div class=\"css-w0lstx\">\n<div>\n<p>A 56-year-old male was\u00a0brought\u00a0to the emergency room with a chief complaint was right flank pain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>History of present Illness:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One day prior to admission, the patient developed a change in the color\u00a0of\u00a0his urine\u00a0from pale yellow to\u00a0red\u00a0in color.\u00a0There was no associated fever, painful urination, or penile discharge.\u00a0He decided to consult with his\u00a0primary physician the following day.<\/p>\n<p>One hour prior to admission, the patient developed\u00a0severe\u00a0right flank pain associated\u00a0with nausea. Upon admission, the patient was\u00a0noted by the ER physician to be in severe pain, with a pain scale of 9 from a\u00a0visual analog pain scale from 1\u00a0 to 10. On physical exam, patient had the\u00a0following findings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vital Signs BP: 140\/90 mm Hg<\/li>\n<li>Heart rate: 110 bpm<\/li>\n<li>Respiration rate: 15 breaths per minute patient<\/li>\n<li>Temperature: 98.6 deg C<\/li>\n<li>All exam findings for the head, neck, heart, lungs, and abdomen were\u00a0normal.<\/li>\n<li>On examination of the back, patient had\u00a0tenderness on the right flank upon palpation.<\/li>\n<li>On examination of the genitalia, there was\u00a0no penile discharge.<\/li>\n<li>Note of a 1 x 1 cm tophus on right big toe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following diagnostic exams were ordered<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CBC with WBC differential count<\/li>\n<li>Urinalysis<\/li>\n<li>Serum uric acid<\/li>\n<li>KUB x-ray<\/li>\n<li>MRI Scan abdominopelvic area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Past Medical History:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diagnosed with gout one year prior to admission<\/li>\n<li>On medication with allopurinol<\/li>\n<li>No heart and lung disease<\/li>\n<li>No diabetes or hypertension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.westcoastuniversity.edu\/bbcswebdav\/pid-108139-dt-forum-rid-14079851_1\/xid-14079851_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><u>Click here to review the results of the diagnostic exam.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Questions and topics for discussion:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>After considering his signs, symptoms, findings, and diagnostic exams, what\u00a0would be the\u00a0clinical diagnosis\u00a0in this\u00a0patient?
