Site Visit:
For this report, attend one of these venues, events, or experiences that feature the visual arts, theater, dance, religion, myth, or other humanities discipline.
- art museum or sculpture garden (especially effective if you focus on a particular subject or exhibition.)
- art installation
- performance art piece
- significant or notable architectural site (if there is explanatory material there to help you understand it)
- music concert
- theater play
- poetry reading or spoken word performance (but not a lecture, not TED Talks)
- dance performance
- religious service, ceremony or ritual for a religion very different from yours, if you practice (for instance, if you are Christian, you may not go to another Christian denomination’s service)
Write a two (2) page report that analyzes what makes the event, site, or experience meaningful.
Each report should include the following information:
Include photos or links that help convey the information. As always, be sure to document all sources you consult in preparing your work. Write an introduction with a thesis statement and a conclusion which repeats the thesis statement.
- A brief description (of the event or institution or setting as appropriate)
- An analysis of at least one relevant aspect of the experience that you found especially interesting or impressive.
- An evaluation of the experience using at least one specific and explicit theory, concept, fact, or practice. This is the heart of the assignment.
- A reflection on the relevance–if any–of your visit to your everyday life. Your reflection should address how the experience helped you better understand the human condition—or failed to.
