Context:

This exercise is designed for students to demonstrate their critical thinking skills as they

relate to the content covered in this subject. Students should reflect on their own learning

experiences outside of the theoretical space and demonstrate their understanding of event

policies, strategy and the use of events to drive either corporate or community objectives.

Instructions:

You are to choose an event that you have attended and write a reflective journal demonstrating

your understanding of content covered in the course. You will be assessed on your critical thinking

skills, your understanding of key policy and strategy principles and how they relate to the event

industry.

The best way to accomplish this task is to consider the following questions in relation to a specific

event that you have attended or have knowledge of:

1. Did the event drive social or economic development for the event host or key supporters?

2. Who benefited from the event?

3. Was there a return on investment? How was this measured?

4. Why did the Government or Corporate support this event?

5. Were there negative impacts? How were these mitigated?

6. Is there an example of a competing event (public or private) that performed better on the

delivery of community/corporate objectives?
