Cyborg sketchbook: Theme1: what is AI? What is a cyborg
At minimum one page is required for each topical week of class theme. Sketchbooks should be rich with both artistic, design or architectural elements and textual annotations. This can look many different ways: conceptual art, prototypes, designs or blueprints or even flow charts and mind maps. Students have submitted these in the past in many different formats. There is no paper requirement – in fact, you do not have to use paper and can develop a digital notebook of images if that is most productive for your workflow.
Either a digital or physical notebook of any kind, used to explore creative ideas connecting to the class lessons and as a personal reference. By introducing the concept of a sketchbook, students are encouraged to respond to lessons through more than textual summarization and reflection. Sketchbooks are useful for developing preliminary and abstract ideas, mapping mental models, engaging visually with themes, connecting theory to design, and supporting both representational and improvisational creativity. At the end of semester, students will submit their sketchbook with at minimum one page of the sketchbook for each class session (totaling 13 sessions) that contain both image and textual annotation.
